Spring Break in Key West

“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.”- Colossians 1:27-28

This spring my husband and I went to Florida to visit our daughter. We drove to Key West and visited there for one day. This is our second trip there and it was just as fun the second time. We visited the Ernest Hemingway house which was really interesting.

We also had Key Lime Pie and it was delicious! In fact, the funny thing is, we stopped to eat somewhere almost every hour! Of course it was hot (80 degrees) and we were not used to walking around in such heat so we reasoned we had to take breaks.

We also visited the Mel Fisher Museum. He has brought up dozens of finds from shipwrecks around the state. It was a nice cool place to take a break (without eating!).

I trekked up the lighthouse – my quads hurt for days afterward!

Another food stop was the very informal B.O. Fish Wagon – if you’ve never been there, you will think it is a junk yard but you won't believe how good the food is. This was the seventh food stop so we mainly stopped there for old time’s sake since we had eaten here 10 years ago and gotten a kick out of it. It was just as good now as then.

The next day, my husband and daughter took a ride on the glass bottom boat at the John Pennekamp State Park. The waves that day were so high they recommended everyone take a Dramamine! I of course declined from such a tummy-tumbling episode and sat in the sun and read mystery magazines for 2 hours. It was great. The ride was not too bad for my husband and daughter so they enjoyed it.

We also stopped at Key Largo and saw the boat used in the African Queen.

If you’ve never been to Key West and the rest of the Keys, we recommend it. In fact, we plan to go back again someday and spend more time there.

Did you have a good spring break trip? Let me know about it. I love to hear about good places to go. Gas prices don't have to dictate our choice of fun.
